My identity is an incredibly important part of who I am and the work I put out into the world. Growing up, I attended an international school in Singapore, my home country, and that experience created a lot of dissonance for me. I would see white faces all around, and was taught that being Singaporean just wasn’t cool. I spent a lot of my youth trying to distance myself from being Singaporean and it wasn’t until I understood how culturally important Singapore is to me as someone with a penchant for travel. Growing up Singaporean allowed me access to so much travel over long weekends, and for short holidays. When I got the opportunity to work on the Singapore Airlines safety video, I couldn’t pass it up. As a freelancer, I was responsible for the early concepts and development of the safety video, including location scouting and visual storytelling, both of which are integral to the work.
